Q: Can a chiropractic neck adjustment cause throat tightness?
I had my neck adjusted 2 days ago (which didn’t seem to have any effect, good or bad) on my doctor’s recommendation because of temporary numbness in my neck a week ago. I woke up the morning following the chiropractic visit with tightness/soreness across my chest and all around my neck and throat but mainly in the sternocleidomastoid muscles on both sides. It hurts in my upper chest when I breathe deeply but doesn’t seem to make it any more difficult to breathe and isn’t tender to touch. I’ve been on meclizine 12.5mg 2x/day since the numbness (with nausea and dizziness) started and mostly am concerned about an allergic reaction since that can cause tightness in the chest and throat. I last took it about 13 hrs ago. If it’s just some mild muscle strain from the chiropractic, any advise on relieving it from someone with a similar experience? It’s a very disturbing feeling : )

A: Getting chiropractic adjustments can sometimes cause pain and inflamation in the area where you were adjusted, my best advice is to call the chiropractor and let them know what is happening, they can probably give you some hot/cold packs to help get rid of the soreness. Also, ask him/her about your meds and even your pharmacist to find out any possible side affects they might have on you.

Q: Has anyone ever taken the investigational study medication CG5503 (a.k.a. tapentadol)? Please advise. Thanks!?
I am thinking about joining an investigational study to research this medication and was wondering if anyone has ever taken it? I have had chronic low back pain from an unknown source for 3+ years. I have had numerous tests done and no physician can find the cause. I have been through physical therapy, chiropractic adjustments, diet, exercise and lifestyle changes and the only relief I get is from medication. The only medicine (other than opioids) that relieved the pain was Vioxx. I have a sensitivity to NSAIDS which makes pain relief harder to achieve, therefore I take Kenalog (a corticosteroid) 80mg IM injections every 3 months which helps with the inflammation. I was asked to participate in this study by a physician I know, and was wondering if there were any ill side effects to the medication (e.g. nausea, constipation, euphoria, dizziness, irritability, etc.). If anyone has taken this medication please advise. I am willing to try anything to ease the pain. Thanks!

A: No but work with a chiropractor (for the ultrasound which shiriks muscle damage and lessens the pain after the massage) and massage therapist as well as the principles in this book (below) – 75% success rate
Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily – magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause – muscles – your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure – start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

Q: Has anyone tried Salleva for energy or that spray you put on your body for fibromyalgia?
Let me know I’m very desperate for some relief. I am drinking Nano Greens and Calcium with Magnesium powder each day which my new chiropractor said I should take. He is also having me walk 20-30 minutes a day, keep a food journal, cut out all the bad stuff out of my diet, chiropractic adjustments, PT, massage, ect. I’m on two different anti-depressants Trazodone 100mg and Cymbalta 60 mg. He (my primary care physician)wanted to up on the dosages because I’m finding no relief but I refused. I hate the side effects.

A: chiropratcors are not a good doc for fms–

fms is brain problem–not a spone problem

that spray is pure quackery

i have heard that savella might help with fatigue

has any mentioned anti seizure meds like lyrica, neurontin
homeopathy does have its place—-but most ‘treatments’ are completely off base when it comes to fms…the ones i’ve seen advertised fro fms are geared toward inflammtion–there is no inflammtion with fms

i do use a homeopthic cream for plantar fasciitis–and its amazing–

but a tretamnent that works for inflammatory conditions will not treat the neuro condition fms

the fact taht you spray your body–not target your brain where tehproblem is–is a clue that it is NOT legit
