Q: Is it okay to have a blood test in the same week as being treated by A chiropractor?
Ive just started under going chiropractic spinal adjustments

Every year I go around this time for health check up and blood tests.

I was wondering if I should wait a bit so my body has time to adjust or go in for a blood test tomorrow afternoon like I normally do

A: It won’t matter.
You didn’t ask for this but there are some ways to release your back muscles which will make you feel like something was really done to your back and it won’t undo itself like treatments you are getting. I used to have to go every other week and since I did these I haven’t been back in 16 months now. Here is what you can try to get your back relief by releasing your muscles and neck muscles:
Neck
Invert your hands and put them next to your head placing your thumbs in under your ears and you lower your head until your neck is fully extended, release the pressure but hold your head there for another 30 seconds.
With your neck in the bent position, replace your thumbs in under the ears and your fingers behind your neck but right next to your skull this time. Press your fingers and thumbs together again and hold. Relax your body while waiting. When the muscles have all released, slowly lift your head until it’s level again, release the pressure but hold your head like that for another 30 seconds.
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.

Q: Why not pattern US health reform after GB / UK? They use HERBS?
I favor Health Care Reform IF we use HERBS as much or more than pharmaceuticals? UK uses more natural health remedies. I am not impressed with synthetic drugs that the human body wants to initally reject since it causes reactions and side effects. They always want to add more drugs to cover your symptoms up. That’s not good doctoring!
Who is trying to shorten your life?

Also, acupuncture and Spinal Decompression and chiropractic are so helpful. I wonder why people are not as healthy in America as in 3rd world countries. Sicko movie seen at High School today & it was very good to encourage us to LOOK AT other countries’ and what works. Hey – we’re supposed to thrive on capitalism and competitiveness. Let’s have what really is BEST not just pharm drugs.
The Scientific Method is conducted only on synthetic drugs by the Big Pharma since that is the only method by which to put a patent n any item and make money. Do they care that something works better? There are studies done. FDA and Big Pharma do not care to investigate to keep us drugged & funding drug companies. System MUST be changed. Most herbs never harm or carry the horrible side-effects that drugs do. I fault doctors for really not finding out what works themselves. Why not at least try a high Vitamin B complex & Acai which can help alleviate and PREVENT diseases from happening. Doctors should be educated in herbs and paid for making people healthier like they are in UK. They are paid bonus for patient’s losing weight, stopping smoking, etc.
I used red raspberry leaves to stop 2 miscarriages & my pregnancy, labor & kids were and are still very healthy.
Red Raspberry Leaves are fantastic for stopping early contractions and giving excellent conditions for baby to grow with healthy pregnancy and I know I went from almost losing my baby, to being able to do jumping jacks even in the last week before delivering at age 43. Sure this is anecdotal but it is true for me. I think it could be repeated with most women. I took the suggestion from someone else. It’s not only for women, but for men. Probably would help with diabetics and their problem with circulation, with absolutely no side-effects. Do you see pharmaceutical drug companies making any money off of this? No since it is a food and cannot be patented, so do they care? No. They will not do the research. The drug companies do not care about what is best. Herbs are standardized. Your view is limited. I have great respect for herbs. Chlorella is another FANTASTIC algae for health & it should be promoted.

A: Heath reform is supposed to be about moving forward, not backwards.

I have already said to you before that acai does not prevent disease. If I am wrong please post your published peer reviewed clinical data showing so.

Your question sounds more like an advert then anything else.

Edit:
Red raspberry leaves and drug companies – I posted this at your other question, I managed to find one study:

“Red raspberry tea is still commonly recommended for pregnant women. However, while there is weak preliminary evidence from animal studies that raspberry might have an effect on the uterus,1 the only real clinical study trial reported to date found no benefit.2 This double-blind placebo-controlled study evaluated the effects of red raspberry in 192 pregnant women. Treatment (placebo or 2.4 g of raspberry leaf daily) began at the 32nd week of pregnancy and was continued until the onset of labor. The results failed to show any statistically meaningful differences between the group. Red raspberry did not significantly shorten labor, reduce pain, or prevent complications. Thus, at present, it appears that red raspberry does not work in the manner ascribed to it by tradition.”

If there is money to be made of something like raspberry leaves then the drug companies will certainly be interested – they would be keen to identify the active chemical then put it through the normal processes to produce a safe consistent drug.

Q: Does chiropractic help with a cold?
I was told that everything in your body relates to the spinal cord so if your neck and back feel good messages are sent through your spinal cord to the rest of the body and your overall health will improve. Cold, flu, whatever supposedly the chiropractor can knock it right out.

A: sure, a chiropractor can help with cold and flu – if they give you some robotussin or whatever

having your neck and back properly alligned is all well and good, and being relaxed does boost your immune system, but a virus such as a cold is a common thing, there are billions of them, and no matter what, you’ll eventually get a cold

Dear Skep Doc: Thanks for commenting. I take you to task since, as you probably know, The Scientific Method is conducted only on synthetic drugs by the Big Pharma since that is the only method by which to put a patent n any item and make money. Do they care that something works better? There are studies done. FDA and Big Pharma do not care to investigate to keep us drugged & funding drug companies. System MUST be changed. Hi Gary Y, You never refer to an actual case study on herbs yourself. A: If everybody is forced to buy health insurance, and that health insurance pays only for allopathic medicine like the use of chemical drugs and surgery, then people will have LESS access to alternatives like you mention. They will have less money to spend on it.

You are right, we should have more free competition, and people should be able to use what helps them.

The health care “reform” being proposed would just reinforce the monopoly of mainstream medicine.

Q: Wouldn’t exactly call it “health care reform”…would you?
President Obama wants healthcare reform. One of his endeavors (in the news today), proposes to drastically cut funding for breast cancer screenings that save the lives of thousands of women each year.
Why, in his attempt to slash healthcare spending, is Obama cutting funding for life-saving preventative care and treatment, when he should be focusing his efforts on ridding the healthcare system—vis-à-vis Medicare and Medicaid—of ludicrously RAMPANT individual, industrial, and governmental corruption? Case in point: the “chiropractor” who drives around his inner-city neighborhood, offering “free” spinal adjustments to eight and nine-year olds, along with a free lollipop and cheapo-toys from the Dollar Store. It’s a win-win…the already “overworked” welfare mothers get a free babysitter for an hour and the chiropractor gets to bill Medicaid for the full price of an unnecessary chiropractic adjustment. Don’t be too angered by this one case; save some of your outrage for the thousands of criminals just like him.
So, why has Obama chosen to begin punishing women? Is it suddenly politically unviable for his re-election hopes to back us? Is it simply that the welfare masses who voted him into power—and may just as easily vote him out in 2012—have spoken? Are they finally calling in their marker for votes rendered in the largest voter registration fraud perpetrated in the history of the US? I guess this is what happens when you pander to the lowest common denominator of our country in order to hold power in its highest office.

A: No. Obama Care is socialized medicine which will be managed and rationed. You will have a huge amount of taxes taken out of your check and may get no healthcare. Long lines, government guidelines which will deny healthcare to the elderly, retired, disabled, and sick. The only way you save money with healthcare is to deny care. People that are well don’t cost much. Millions and millions will die including premature babies.

Q: conclusion from roll over accident. The past 3 years of my life has been a up hill battle with my health.?
I was diagnosed with pelvic floor dysfunction in sept 08. before and after the accident i was treated with extremly high amounts of pain meds and muscle relaxers for my previous other conditions. mayo diagnosed the PFD in sept 08 I was advised to stop pain meds and take the med nortryptline that was prescribed by mayo. I did and the pain from the injury to my neck caused me to have to see a specialist for my spine. New injuries were found along with degenerative changes in my spinal column. 25 years as a Doctor in the field of chiropractic service, said he was 99% sure the pictures do tell the story. Old injury and new injury are very detectable. Dirt bike injury to my mid and lower back at 18 years old then at 19 years old fell off moving vehicle mid and lower back again. I have nerve damage in the muscles in my pelvic and spine. The only thing I am out is some lost wages and mileage at the present time. I have excellent MM. Doctors billed major med instead of auto ins. My first and second trip to a chiropractor ever was met with snapping of my neck causing more than normal pain. I protested no when told to lie on my back for the 3 rd setting I said no Dr Robinson insisted when he tried to crack my neck it sprung back and wouldnt set. This caused me to have to see another doctor for injections for pain. These doctors were all given the information that was needed to file a claim with the proper insurance. The wrong insurance was filed by the doctors. How will I get the money I am out. I didnt know someone would be able to answer this quick thank you . More to this story!

A: your question is somewhat confusing.

any medical bills associated with dirt bike should have been billed to the insurance company for your bike if you have one. it may not be required to have insurance on a dirt bike.

as for the falling off a moving vehicle? that should have fallen to owner of vehicle that owed the moving vehicle; they hopefully have medical payments/pip coverage on their policy.

even though the doctors filed claims under your medical insurance, the medical insurance once found you had accidents, would go after the responsible parties for reimbursement.

the problem is that one injury or different diagnosis maybe difficult to seperate has being caused by that specific accident, or aggravated by a prior accident.

you may need to get copies of all the bills from all of the providers and try to seperate per accident;
you will also need to determine what injury is associated with what.

if falling from a a moving vehicle was not your fault, then the owner of the vehicle may owe your for your injuries. but how on earth did you fall from a moving vehicle, unless you were an idiot playing games, drunk etc.

you may need to contact an attorney for advice

good luck

Q: II have degeneritive disc diese in l-3,l4,l5, l5s-1 with spondilosis and spinal stenios.should i try surgery?
I have had this problem for over twenty years, but has gotten allot worse in last 8. I am 40 and in great health other wise. i have always worked out until 3 years ago despite the pain. It actually helped in one way and caused more damage in others. I am trying to continue working as a building contractor, as i have for 22 years. I have always used deep tissue massage as Wel a s chiropractic and hot baths. Also vitamins and herbal treatments have been beneficial. But as i get older my back goes out much more often and changes bad pain into terrible pain about a 9 0n a scale of 1to10. this goes on for 2 weeks at a time , at least once every 5weeks or so.Please let me know if any one has similar problems and if so tell me what you did to relieve pain besides pain pills which i already take. If you have had surgery how did it turn out, and what did you have done. DESPERATE PLEASE HELP.

A: If you have nerve damage that impairs your ability to walk or urinate/defecate, then you need to try surgery. Surgery does not improve pain very well and in fact a few years after surgery you are worse than if you don’t have surgery.

You could try injections, aqua therapy and/or physical therapy with core strengthening. Weight loss is also recommended. If you are depressed, take care of that also as being depressed makes pain worse. Quit smoking. Nicotine interferes with the pain medicine working in your brain. Make sure that your thyroid, testosterone and vitamin d levels are ok (chronic pain and pain pills depletes them all).

Surgery might sound tempting, but unless it is for muscle weakness, I wouldn’t do it. I see many people with back pain after their operations.

Q: Has anyone heard of this ?
Chiropractic First : Natural Health Group
my mom found them through a festival that had booths for different things , & they said they do a first free check up so she signed me up for it . well we went today & it was really strange . it almost seemed like they were trying to brainwash ppl into going , they took xrays & showed me that my spinal cord had a serious problem , which also seemed to be the case with every single person there . which i also find a little hard to believe seeing as im 16 . they spent 2 hours preaching on how doctors are wrong & saying that if everyone did not join with them they would end up dieing . & the price was over 3000 dollars . but everything i can find on the place seems spotless , no one else except for me & my dad seemed to notice anything strange about it , i dont understand how that is possible , so if anyone knows anything at all about it or can find any useful information , i’d appreciate it a lot .

What Is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a term doctors use to describe a lateral curve of the spine. Depending on the etiology (cause) of the scoliosis, there may be one or more curves involved.

Types of Scoliosis

There are two types of scoliosis: structural and functional. A structural scoliosis can be caused by disease, bony or muscular deformities, congenital deformities (those that are present at birth) or improper healing from injury or surgery. A functional scoliosis can occur as a result of injury, muscle spasm, spinal mal-alignment, or the body trying to compensate for spinal problems, such as a herniated disc. Individuals with these conditions tend to “create” a scoliosis as they are leaning to one side trying to find a position in which to relieve their pain.

The curvature of a scoliosis can be mobile, or in more serious cases, can be fixed (unable to move). Cases of immobility are typically the result of injury or a disease, such as polio, that can result in multiple spinal bones fusing together.

The most common type of scoliosis is idiopathic scoliosis. This is what doctors look for when they perform spinal screenings on school-age children. The term idiopathic means “of unknown cause.” It begins as a functional scoliosis, but can become structural over time if it is not managed by a health care professional such as an orthopedist or a chiropractor. It is very important to catch scoliosis in childhood before it progresses as it can significantly worsen as the spine develops and the child grows.

More About Idiopathic Scoliosis
Between 60 and 80 percent of cases of idiopathic scoliosis occur in school-age girls, and are usually detected between the ages of 9 and 14. The condition may first be suspected when one shoulder appears higher than the other, when clothes do not hang straight, or when one hip seems more prominent. An initial complaint may be fatigue in the low or mid back after prolonged standing or sitting. Note that pain is a manifestation as time passes, as the ligaments of the spine endure prolonged strain.

Of the 4 percent of children with detectable scoliosis, half will require treatment or continuing medical observation; the other half can be screened in school and simply monitored for significant progression.

What Is the Outcome?
The outcome depends on the site and severity of the curve and the age of onset of symptoms. Complications are related to the type of curve present. The greater the curve, the greater the likelihood of progression after skeletal maturity. A prompt referral to a chiropractor or an orthopedist is recommended in order to institute treatment to correct the deformity or to prevent further deformity.

What Is the Treatment for Scoliosis?
Chiropractic treatment for scoliosis utilizes specific adjustments to the involved areas of the spine. This is combined with therapies such as electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, or intersegmental traction, and postural exercise. The progression of the curve in the spine is monitored very closely to determine if more aggressive treatments are deemed necessary. Chiropractic treatments are designed to focus on the correction of the scoliosis and the prevention of complications. A large percentage of scoliosis patients find relief and correction for their scoliosis deformity through chiropractic care.

A: This article is well-written, well-organized, and contains good definitions of the technical terms. I found it helpful, since it contained information that I didn’t know about scoliosis. All the information that I was familiar with is accurate and well-presented.
I especially appreciate the positive description of chiropractic medicine and its effects. It validates my personal perspective on chiropractic medicine.

If scoliosis is progressing rapidly or is severe, an immediate consultation with an orthopedist is necessary. The orthopedic specialist will review the condition to determine what treatment should be rendered. Treatment may include a brace fitted to the spine (called a Milwaukee brace), electrospinal stimulation, or spinal surgery.

Being diagnosed with scoliosis, wearing a brace or cast, being hospitalized, or having surgery can greatly challenge a youngster’s independence or self-image. The alternative, however, is living with a significant deformity. Counseling and support should also be major components in caring for children and teenagers with scoliosis.

Treatment for Adults
Treatment for scoliosis in adults is also relative to the type, cause, and severity of the condition. The effects from neglecting care can include spinal degeneration, nerve impingement, disc problems, and spinal fusion. Keep in mind that if a scoliosis condition goes uncorrected from childhood into adulthood, the chances for correction in adulthood are slim. Once into adulthood, the progression of the condition may be slowed or halted, and pain relief may be achieved; however, the condition is not completely correctable at this point.

If the scoliosis is caused by muscle spasm or spinal bone misalignment, the scoliosis is very correctable. The treatment of scoliosis is completely dependent upon the cause.

Early detection and prevention are the best possible treatments for scoliosis. Make sure your children are participating in spinal screenings performed at school. If spinal screenings are not performed at your child’s school, call your health care provider or local doctor of chiropractic. A screening only takes a few minutes but can prevent years of pain.

A: It is unclear whether you are purporting to be the author of this article, but if you are, I don’t believe you. Your question is barely literate, while the article is a model of clear, logical thinking, good sentence formation and correct spelling. If you are going to present this article as your own, I suggest you may be in deep trouble. If you are going to use this article as a source in composing your own paper, I will assume that it meets the parameters of your assignment, and in doing so, is an excellent source.
